Philippe Calais, Ph.D., Pharm.
President and CEO, Ambrilia
An accomplished biotech and pharma leader on an international level during the past 20 years, Dr. Calais has a broad range of expertise in management, drug development and global strategic operations. Dr. Calais’ extensive knowledge and management experience in strategic alliances and drug development in anti-infectives are key in his current role, as well as his familiarity of U.S. markets. He spent most of his career at Hoffman-La Roche (Switzerland). He then moved to Canada to become General Manager of Servier Canada Inc., Prior to joining Ambrilia, Dr. Calais served as President of Global Business with Neurochem. He received his Pharmacy degree and his Doctorate in Pharmacy with Special Honours (Ph.D.) from the Université François Rabelais in Tours, France. He received his CESAM degree in statistics as applied to medical research and general methodology from Université Marie Curie in Paris.
Bonabes de Rougé, M.D.
Senior Executive Vice-President and CSO, Ambrilia
Formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of Cellpep S.A., Dr. de Rougé has more than 30 years of experience in the international pharmaceutical industry where he occupied various scientific executive positions with Servier and Beaufour-Ipsen. During the last 20 years, he developed a solid expertise in peptide development and is a seasoned manager of the entire drug development process at the international level. Dr. de Rougé is a Doctor of Medicine and holds a Chemistry-Biology Diploma from Paris University.
François Lombard, Ph.D.
CEO, Turenne Capital Partenaires (France)
Dr. François Lombard, currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Turenne Capital Partenaires, brings an extensive background in finance, investment and portfolio management. Dr. Lombard started his career at the World Bank in Washington and he served in project financing executive positions at CCF and CDC-Participations. He was also the founder of Epargne Partenaires S.A. which he sold to CCF Charterhouse in 1997.
Frédéric Porte (Chairman)

Mr. Frederic Porte is a seasoned entrepreneur and businessman with more than 25 years of experience in the life sciences industry. During his career, Mr. Porte has founded 3 successful companies. He is currently the President and Founder of Medipress Management Inc., a firm offering financial and strategic services to healthcare and venture capital organizations for the evaluation of M&A and strategic alliances. Prior to that, he founded in 1987 Clinidata, a software and communication company developed in association with Royal Bank Capital Corporation and specialized in healthcare applications. Clinidata developed effective and sophisticated technologies supported by multinational corporations such as Merck, Pfizer, J&J, Schering Plough and Smith Kline Beecham, combined with strategic alliances with managed care organizations and professional associations. The company was acquired in 1994 by the pharmaceutical company Hoechst Marion Roussel. In 1980, he created and managed L’Actualité Médicale, a leading Canadian medical publishing company which was later acquired by MacLean Hunter. Mr. Porte has a degree in Business Administration and Finance from l’École Supérieure de Commerce de Lyon (France) and a D.E.A. in Information Sciences from the University of Sorbonne (France). Mr. Porte is a member of the Board of Directors of Labopharm Inc. He is also a director of Angelus Investment Corporation and Venture Partner of Genesys Capital Partner.
Paul-Henry Schmelck, M.D.
Director, Investments, OTC Asset Management (France)
Dr. Paul-Henry Schmelck has more than 10 years of experience in biotech and pharmaceutical financing, and 20 years in medical practice and research as well as in pharmaceutical and biotech development. Before joining OTC Asset Management, a Paris-based venture capital fund with more than €250 million under management, he was the founder, President & CEO, of PrimeBioTech a gene therapy company developing therapeutic products to treat genetic diseases of the retina. He also managed banking operations related to the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetic industries for the Union d’études et Investissements (“UI”), Crédit Agricole’s investment branch. In that capacity, Dr. Schmelck advised and assisted numerous European and U.S. companies in Mergers & Acquisitions, licensing and research agreements, joint-ventures and technology transfers. In addition, Dr. Schmelck headed a scientific group of 150 professionals at Elf Sanofi as Biotechnology Research Director. He practiced in general pediatrics, nephrology and endocrinology at the Hôpital Necker Enfants Malades. He published over thirty articles in scientific and medical journals and has participated to lectures on a numerous number of subjects in France and abroad. He received his M.D. with specialization in pediatrics and a Masters degree of advanced studies in molecular and cellular pharmacology from the University of Paris. He followed INSEAD’s Advanced Management Program (1987).
Jean-Paul St-Pierre, M.D.
Biotechnology Consultant and Practicing Physician
Dr. St-Pierre is a seasoned executive with more than 20 years of experience in managing global research and drug development within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He is also an accomplished clinical researcher since 1971 in therapeutic areas such as allergy, immunology, anti-infective, cardiovascular, endocrinology and others. During his career, he was responsible for overseeing the North American and Latin American clinical operations at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Dr. St-Pierre was Vice-President of the worldwide clinical development operations at Rhone-Poulenc (U.S). At Hoechst Marion Roussel Canada, Dr. St-Pierre was Executive Vice-President, Scientific Affairs, during which time he integrated the scientific activities of Hoechst Roussel and Marion Merrell Dow. He spent 7 years at Sandoz Canada where he occupied several executive positions and became Vice-President, Scientific Development. Dr. St-Pierre was President and CEO of Synapse Technologies. A specialist in allergy and clinical immunology, he currently runs a medical practice at the Montreal St-Justine Hospital and is an active consultant in biotechnology. He received his M.D. from the University of Montreal and did a Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Colorado and is a Board certified in allergy and immunology in the U.S.
Philip S. Tabbiner, Ph.D.
President and General Manager, K-12 Learning and Development, Educational Testing System (USA)
Dr. Philip S. Tabbiner is a veteran of the pharmaceutical and diagnostics industry. He has served in executive positions with Chiron, Bayer Healthcare, Dupont-Merck, aaiPharma, BioCentrex and TRx Pharmaceuticals. Over his 25-year career he has worked in nearly every commercial facet of the pharmaceutical and diagnostics businesses.
Luc Tanguay
Senior Executive Vice-President and CFO, Theratechnologies Inc.
Mr. Tanguay brings more than 20 years of business experience, more specifically in corporate finance, strategic planning, investor relations and financing. For the last 10 years he evolved in the biotechnology industry, where he occupied senior management positions. As a member of the current senior management team at Theratechnologies Inc., a publicly-listed biopharmaceutical company created in 1993, he contributed to the Company’s growth by facilitating access to public and private capital funding. He was also directly involved in Theratechnologies’ spin-off strategy, leading to the creation of emerging public and private companies. Prior to this, he was an investment banker in one of Quebec’s leading brokerage firms and was directly involved in financing activities in the health sciences sector totaling nearly one billion dollars. Mr. Tanguay holds a CFA certification from the University of Virginia and a Masters Degree in Finance from Sherbrooke University. He his a member of the Board of Directors of Theratechnologies Inc. and Sonomed Inc.
